Benefit concert for Melbourne musician, Ernie Gruner -
An amazing day of music and theatre, involving some of Melbourne’s finest musicians, will celebrate much-loved professional fiddle virtuoso, Ernie Gruner. Ernie is currently recuperating from major heart surgery.
This special six-hour event has been organised to raise funds, wish Ernie a speedy recovery and to celebrate his significant contribution to Melbourne’s cultural life.Ernie is a renowned musician on the Klezmer, cabaret and folk music scenes after more than 30 years playing around Melbourne, the Australian festival circuit and internationally.

Further Information:Ernie is probably best known to Melbourne audiences through performances with bands such as Jugularity, Klezmeritis, Yalla!, Bohemian Nights and the Flirting Mazurkas and theatre shows including Playback Theatre and Russian Soup (see website below).
He has also played a leading role in developing community music through events such as the Turramurra Music Camp held every January for the past 25 years and the annual Kingfisher Festival at the Ceres Community Environment Park.
Ernie’s contribution to multicultural Melbourne is highlighted by his status as one of Australia’s leading exponents of Klezmer, European Jewish celebration, music while also being a key member of Yalla!, a high energy middle-eastern music and dance group that focuses on music of Arabic origin. Then there’s his long association with the multicultural arts organisations The Boite and Multicultural Arts Victoria.
Ernie had just returned from an overseas trip to study with Klezmer masters when he was advised to have urgent heart surgery. He is recovering well and hoping to be back on stage for Jugularity’s 21st birthday bash at the Spiegeltent on November 23.
